As we aim to address the consequences of trauma, we intend to offer pediatric care to those children at high risk due to present or past exposure to trauma. It has been proven that early trauma exposure, including during pregnancy, places these children in a vulnerable position by altering the way their brain develops. Later in life they are at risk of multiple chronic medical and mental health conditions. Furthermore, they also face learning, relationship and decision-making challenges as they grow older. We engage the family in a process that can prevent general health complications as the child develops. We offer not only general medical care, but also family coaching to manage the whole family unit as we treat the patient with symptoms.
